Best Shiraz – 2022 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards

Established in 1982, Scotchmans Hill is located in the heart of the Bellarine Peninsula and has long been regarded as one of the region’s premier producers. Scotchmans Hill Shiraz has been in spectacular recent form with this 2021 vintage continuing the enormous popularity of this wine.

This 2021 Scotchmans Hill Shiraz is a brilliant example of how good Bellarine Peninsula Shiraz can be, having been awarded the ‘Best Shiraz’ and ‘Best Victorian Shiraz’ trophies at the 2022 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards.

Offering a complex nose of dark plum, ripe cherry aromas, the palate is intensely flavoured yet approachable with an array of red fruits and dark cherries. Finishing with incredible balance and length, this is a complex, classy Bellarine Shiraz that comes with our highest recommendation.

“96 Points. Whole bunches (15%), matured in new (30%) to four-year-old French barriques for 16 months. An excellent and bright crimson-purple hue immediately brings to attention just how vibrant this wine is. Ripe red fruits, cocoa nibs, white pepper and a hint of violets in the bouquet, while the medium-bodied palate exudes charm. It’s well weighted and structured, too, with very fine and persistent tannins rounding out a wine that can be enjoyed in its youth but is assured to age well also. $45. 14.5% alc. Drink by: 2031.
